The loose-leaf publication Companies Act of Malaysia – An Annotation serves as a counterpart to Woon’s Corporations Law of Singapore and has long been regarded as an essential resource for corporate practitioners and businesses. This work skillfully provides a concise yet comprehensive section-by-section annotation of the Malaysian Companies Act 2016 (Act 777). It includes discussions of case law from Malaysia and Singapore, while also referencing relevant cases from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada as comparative materials.
Professor Walter Woon, a former Attorney-General of Singapore, earned his LL.B (First Class Honours, 1981) from the National University of Singapore and LL.M (First Class Honours, 1983) from Cambridge University. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Directors and has served on the boards of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, listed companies, charitable organizations, and private firms.
He chaired the Steering Committee for the review of the Singapore Companies Act and was Special Counsel for the re-drafting of the Taiwan Company Act. Currently, he is the Lee Kong Chian Visiting Professor at SMU’s Yong Pung How School of Law, Honorary Fellow of St John’s College, Cambridge, and Emeritus Professor at NUS. His analysis of Act 777 (2016) includes case law from Malaysia, Singapore, and other Commonwealth jurisdictions.
