Trial, A judicial study of matters of fact or law in order to determine the rights of the parties concerned. Opening remarks are made by attorneys for both the plaintiff and the defendant before a judge or jury, and then the plaintiff's attorney advances his case by calling witnesses, whom the defence counsel may cross-examine.
